“I knew when I met Michael—even at the age of twelve— that I was going to marry him. I wasn’t surprised to realize this, but I was smart enough to know it would have certainly surprised everyone else, especially my parents, so I told no one. Naturally when Michael broke up with me that first year he went away to college, I honestly thought something terrible had rocked the universe. It wasn’t supposed to be this way.
