"What do you mean, 'they don't count'?" "They're not close to Grandmother Rose. They never have been. My father went to boarding schools and then went to college out of state." "Like you did," he observed, sipping coffee.
"Yes, but it was different with me. I spent my summers with Grandmother Rose. Honestly, if you think about it, I've probably spent more time with her than with mom and dad." "You're not close to your parents?" "It's their choice, not mine," she said defensively.
