n Project in Los Alamos in 1944, working again with Hans Bethe, who headed that unit; served as research associate at MIT in 1946-1947; and joined the physics faculty at the University of North Carolina in 1947. He retired from full-time teaching in 1984, but continued teaching part-time while remaining active in theoretical physics. He died in Chapel Hill, N.C., in 2008 The collection comprises four handwritten student notebooks kept by W. A. Bowers while a student at Cornell University.
