“He needed to feed the puppies and then snuggle with Zeb for a day.
Or two.
“Come on, pup. Feeding time.”
Zeb had watched Zim go with Andy and Balfor, pouting, but at Bear’s command the pup crawled over to him, rubbing against his legs.
“Mmm... We need a lie-in, pup. A nice long day, just us, in bed with snacks and vids and cuddles.” He loved his job, he did, but once a month or so, he needed a snuggle day with his pup. It made things right.
Zeb barked happily, rubbing harder.
He nodded, agreeing. “Yes, tomorrow, I think. Popcorn and bubblecola and you and me in the covers. You water the kennel pups, I’ll get the food.”
“Yes, Master.” Zeb was practically glowing, his tail high and wagging as he went to do as he’d been asked.
Bear let himself admire his pup for a heartbeat, then went to work, petting little Tagalong and Charm, giving Tyg a long look, the big pup still in solitude, still growling.
