“Missy met her with a glass of lemonade as she heaved herself up the steps to the Kincaid porch. Mama took off her favorite hat, the blue one with red flowers. She sank into a rocking chair and narrowly missed Sam’s tail. He had arranged himself on his back to catch the breeze on his pale, rounded stomach.
