“My home room teacher, who I interrogated the first opportunity I could (to his amusement), told me that Jessica's mother had called the school and told them that Jessica was sick today. It took all of my willpower to not rush out of school to her house to check on her. The poor girl must be in terrible pain to not come.
Coming to her street, I quickly jog down the rows of houses and stop in front of her house. Her mother is just leaving as I put my hand up to knock on the door.
"Jarrod. You loo...ked flushed. Are you ok?" "Sorry, Mrs. Adams. I ran here from school." "Oh dear, you shouldn't have worried so much.
She just has a little cold." My eyebrows crinkle together. I hope she is ok.
"Is it alright if I go up and check on her?" "Of course. I'm off to do some shopping. She's up in her room." "Thanks, Mrs. Adams." She lets me through the front door and I wave goodbye to her as she pulls out of the driveway in the families mini-van.
