“I, um…I need to pee.”
Daniel, distracted with blending the egg yolks into the cheesecake batter, didn’t turn around. “You’ll have to wait. I need to get this in the oven now if it’s going to be ready in time for dessert. Go back to your chores. I’ll come find you in a minute.”
He folded in the heavy cream and bit of orange peel, dipped his finger into the batter and tasted it. Perfect. He was just pouring the mixture onto the shortbread crust he’d made in advance when his cell phone rang.
Since he was often naked or nearly so during the summer months in Liam’s house, Daniel had taken to keeping his phone on the kitchen counter beside the house phone. He put down the mixing bowl, wiped his hands on the back of his shorts and reached for the ringing phone.
“Daniel Spencer.”
“Hey, Dan, it’s Scott. How are you?”
Daniel swallowed his retort that his name wasn’t Dan. He didn’t like nicknames. He’d mentioned this several times to Scott, who had ignored him, so he just let it go.
