This gave him about a fortnight of each month at home with his young wife and baby, and plenty of time for his hobby, which was model engineering. He had exhibited the latter at the annual exhibition of the Baling and District Model Engineering Society which had been judged by no less an authority than Keith Stewart, and he had received a bronze medal from the hands of the great man himself.
