“Oh, no!” cried Ellen. “I couldn’t do that.”
“How you going to get to Elizabeth?”
Ellen took a long breath. “Walk,” she said in a very low voice.
Then she remembered the coins in her pocket.
“Mr. Murdock!” she said. “I can pay you to ride me to Elizabeth.”
