“I hereby pledge to serve the Dagger Society, to strike fear into the hearts of those who rule Kenettra, to take by death what belong to us, and to make the power of our Elites known to every man, woman, and child. Should I break my vow, let the dagger take from me what I took from the dagger.”

Marie Lu and I weren't clicking that much before. While the Legend series definitely wasn't bad, I never particularly cared for it. My problems were mainly in the characters and the writing. I had no

such problems with The Young Elites.

The story follows Adelina Amouteru, the survivor of the blood fever that left it's survivors scarred. Malfettos. Some of them were left with powers. The Young Elites. Adelina Amouteru discovers her power of illusion as she kills her father and is taken by the people who destroy such abominations to be burned at the stake.
Adelina is rescued by the infamous Dagger Society. They are a group of Young Elites, lead by Enzo, a man of secrecy and power. They let Adelina in, and teach her to use her powers. But for Adelina, no good thing comes without a follow up of very, very bad things.

First of all: This is an origin story of a villain. That was the first thing that drew me in. Our heroine is no heroine. She flirts with darkness and the darkness smiles back.

“No one ever gives me their kindness without hoping for something in exchange.”

Adelina has had a bad life. Everyone just keep using and using her. She has a wonderful and very believable character arch through the book. She is turning powerful. She is strong. She will punish those who have wronged her. You are so proud of her. And yet... you're scared. Because turning stronger for her means turning into a villain in everyone's eyes. And we all know how villain's stories usually end.

Omg

I’m in awe of this comment. You’re a beautiful specimen of the human species and I appreciate it. *slow clap* “if ur looking for good people and happy endings this is the wrong place buddy” that was brilliantly well said and your description of Adelina was magnificent. Thank you for making me laugh today.
