The blurb reads, "An inspiring book about how a Mormon kid with Tourette's found salvation through books and weightlifting," which pretty much sums it up, except ... there's so much more in the telling. The reader is drawn into the author's world from page one. Humorous, offbeat, poignant, captivating are adjectives that run through my mind. It was interesting that through all the medical advice received and tried over the years to help control Tourette's, the breakthrough came

...

through the help of an autistic disillusioned RKC (Russian Kettledrum Challenge) instructor from Minot, North Dakota - a description which does not define the person but points to the author's statement, "It had taken someone whose brains didn't work like anyone else's to ask me questions that nobody else had."A story within the story is the author's job as a librarian and the role libraries play in today's society. I love the author's words, "A library is a miracle. A place where you can learn just about anything for free. A place where you can come alive."

I am listening to the audio version of this book and am thoroughly enjoying it. The subject is handled with humorand just the right amount of emotion. I admire Josh and how he handles his Tourette's and the family support he receives from his parents and his wife. I don't know if it helped me at all to be more comfortable when interacting with a person with tourette's. But maybe that was not his reason for writing the book!!! The fact that I now know more ABOUT Tourette's might be enough.
