                  He stepped behind a pillar, blocking her from view. She sat cross-legged on the couch in the middle of the room, a magazine open on her lap. She was enthralled, completely focused on the glossy pictures in front of her, licking her finger to dampen it each time she turned a page. He wondered where she had gotten the magazine. She must have brought it with her, or her family dropped off a care package.
