...ack of the van. As Marcus reversed into the van, our eyes met across the street and I swallowed in fear. What would he do to me? He must have seen that I’d stayed and watched and not pretended not to see as you’re supposed to. Marcus waited for a car to pass then crossed the road towards me, maintaining eye contact the whole time.
    He only started to speak when he was standing on the pavement directly in front of me.
    ‘Sorry you had to see that,’ he said, softly.
