“Sarah sat up in bed, wondering how long she’d slept. She looked over his shoulder.
“Looking for something.” He turned the pages of a huge book, scanning.
“What are you looking for?”
“Exceptions to the Sifting rules. Anything that I can use to stop this since you’re too fucking dense to renounce.”
The bite in his tone didn’t bother her. She understood. She traced along his scars on his back and he sighed. “Please don’t. You’re not helping.”
She stopped. “Okay. What can I do?”...
“Besides renounce? Well, not making me want to fuck you while we only have hours before your death would be helpful.”
She got on her knees and rubbed his shoulders. He turned in the bed and looked at her. “What the fuck are you not getting?”
