Sir Victor Gollancz (1893-1967) was a British publisher, socialist, and humanitarian. He was commissioned into the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1915, although he did not see active service. In 1916 he transferred to Repton School Junior Officers' Training Corps. In 1917 he became involved in the Reconstruction Committee, an organization that was making plans for postwar Britain. Gollancz formed his own publishing company in 1927; the writers he published included George Orwell and Ford Madox Ford

David Churchill Somervell (1885-1965) was a teacher at Tonbridge School in England. He was a historian, and prolific author. He is probably best known for his abridgement of Arnold J. Toynbee's A Study of History He also wrote a very useful book titled A Short History of Our Religion, published in 1922.
