But even so, the life we lived was never easy, and our “privileged” existence here would have been considered unspeakable in much of the rest of the world. Our battles with cold, hunger, thirst, poverty, and inadequate sanitation were constant, day in and day out, year in and year out.I can begin with the cold, since that is the thing that I can still feel deep down in my bones.
