I read this in 2 days because I could not put it down! The questions asked were specific to various autistic tendencies and Naoki's answers were so insightful. Every child was autism is different, but I feel like I now I have a better understanding of what my son is going through. I love that this book is provided for parental insight as we try to better understand our children. Highly recommended!!

The Reason I Jump is a heart felt story about a thirteen-year-old with au
...tism, Naoki Higashida, who is also the author of the book. Because Naoki has Autism he misunderstood because he could never quite say what he felt because whenever he would try to speak his words would “vanish”, but one day he was given the opportunity to type on the computer and began to be able to communicate with other people. With his newfound talent he decided he wanted to write a book about his struggles with Autism, answering peoples questions, and being a communicator for all people with Autism. The book is written in a series of questions, an example for a question would be “Why do you do things you shouldn't even when you've been told a million times not to?”(14). The Reason I Jump gave insight into an a person with Autisms life. Overall The Reason I Jump was a very good book. It was very interesting to see what a person with Autism thought and how they felt when people said certain things to them. For example when people are telling them off for doing something wrong they feel awful for doing it, or when people say they would rather be alone they really do not, even if the are sitting alone. This book reminds me of the book Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper because both main characters face problems communicating. Naoki has Autism and Melody, who has Cerebral Palsy. The Reason I Jump is an interesting book and a great read!MoreLess
