I've read a few of these popular personal psychology books lately and so I decided not to read the whole thing, just got it out of the library and filleted it. It's highly readable and you can get a lot of useful knowledge from it by reading the prologue, skimming the chapters between and then reading the appendix. It's basically applying behaviourism to people's desire to effect personal change in their own habits. There's some solid science there, so in general I approve of the
...approach.

All the side trips that Duhigg takes us on to illustrate his points are to me what makes this book so interesting. He takes a topic that is "well known" by the average person and shows what lies underneath the hood. Now maybe I can tinker with my own engine and get better gas mileage! He also links it to such a variety of topics making habits more then just personal but communal. I really liked it.
