frostfleur says: I hate that I can't give this book more than three stars. I have been HIGHLY anticipating reading this, as I generally adore Neil Gaiman's writing. I recommended it to my book club and was thrilled when it was chosen. But it disappointed me. Parts of the story were simply lovely and could have been embroidered on much more. But overall I felt let down. There wasn't the usual Gaiman character development that I adore. And the ending seemed rushed as if suddenly all the loose ends ...needed to be tied up in time for a deadline. tiffy says: Once again, I am struck at how Neil Gaiman understands children. Gaiman knows that the lives and imaginations of children are often scary, like his books Coraline and the Graveyard Book. With a villain that would have terrified me as a child, Gaiman has written another masterpiece with breathtaking imagery and memorable characters. The Ocean at the End of the Lane brought me back to the fantasies of my youth with the rustic and purely mythological storytelling that has made Gaiman a favorite in my house. A must-read for everyone!MoreLessRead More Read Less
