The trees were already more thickly clothed with leaves than they had been a week or two ago when she had last come along here, so she did not see the lake until she came upon it unexpectedly as she rounded a bend and saw the little cove ahead.She walked down to the edge of the water and dipped her hand into it, letting it trickle through her fingers.
