The passengers disembarked at docks bustling with other voyagers, slaves, sailors, and craftsmen and laborers from the shipyards, for Croton was a major port and shipbuilding center in this region of the Mediterranean. Goods traded or transferred there came from up and down the coasts of the Italian peninsula, not only from the Greek cities but also from the Latin communities farther north and from numerous other regions of the Mediterranean. There have been few archaeological excavations within the city of Croton proper.MoreLessRead More Read Less
