“Conny has at last accepted me as a lover in all respects, and the fierce and utter satisfaction of that is greater than anything I’ve ever known before — even in drunkenness, or sex. But she insists that Father mustn’t be harmed, and all proper appearances kept up. Nothing I can say changes her mind.
