“The general had indicated that he wanted to talk to him, but they could not do so in the house, for Meldon could not say with certainty that no one in his household was a spy for the French. Meldon was trying to manufacture a reason to leave the house with the general, but without his brother-in-law. If the sheep arrived today they might provide the reason.
“So this is where you’re hiding.”
