The air in the main lounge literally stank of booze. Sara was getting drunk just breathing. Unfortunately, the basketball game on the tube was keeping her more sober than she would have liked. Halftime had just begun and the Lakers were down by eight points.

“They are, yeah,” Nick said.
“That’s good,” Sara said.
“But so are the Celtics,” Nick added.
A faint creaking sound went through the lounge as the floor dropped a few inches. It was a rare sign that they were far out at sea. The lounge could have been in a bar on the west side of town. It was loud enough.
“But an eight-point lead,” Sara said. “That’s nothing in a basketball game, is it?”
Nick nodded. “It can disappear in a couple of minutes.”
“If you were to put money on this game right now, who would you bet on?”
