“Elvira!” I call softly. I still don’t want to attract attention to myself. She looks over her shoulder, beckons me on, and keeps swimming upwards. When we are some way from the chamber’s entrance, she slows and waits for me. Around us, all the young Mer who have already been into the chamber are dispersing.
