"I should have told you before now," he said, "but when you're a guy like me, a guy who's never... loved anybody before, and then you do, and it hurts, it's hard to... put yourself out there again. And I'm the one who needs to be forgiven. Can you forgive me, bunny?" "Yes," she said immediately, her eyes still glued to the note in the sand. He still hadn't said it out loud, but maybe this was better. Like her, he'd put it in writing. And maybe that explained why her journal hurt him so very muc...h—because seeing something in writing somehow made it seem more real.
Brandon looked surprised that she was suddenly being so easy about this. "You do?" She nodded vigorously, then pointed back down at the sand. "If you really mean that." "I do," he said softly but surely.
At this, Wendy threw her arms around him and kissed him. He wrapped around her in a full embrace and as his tongue snaked into her mouth, things felt right again, with him, and in her heart, for the first time since she'd taken that ill-fated shower seven long weeks ago, leaving him alone with her journal.
