““What in the world happened to you?” Gayle asked as the two women took their morning coffee break. “You look terrible.”
Sighing, Allison ran a weary hand through her hair. “That’s just what I needed to hear, Gayle.”
The other woman grimaced at Allison’s sarcasm. “I’m serious. Are you ill?”
Allison shook her head, then tossed her nearly full coffee cup into the trash bin. Her stomach was in such a flutter even a drink of coffee sent it into fits. “I didn’t get any sleep last night.”
... “Ooh,” Gayle purred, then grinned like a cat. “I’m so glad to finally learn you’re human like the rest of us.”
Allison threw up her hands. “It’s not what you’re thinking. I didn’t spend the night with Nick Gallagher.”
“Oh, shoot.” Gayle groaned with disappointment. “Didn’t he ask you?”
Gayle’s question brought a burst of dry laughter from Allison.MoreLess
