The only thing I can adequately compare this book to is a roller coaster. It's up, it's down, it's all over the place. My mind was racing when I finished this book. I couldn't even begin to accept that it was over. This sci-fi book seems to explain aliens in a way that actually makes it sound realistic. Rick Yancey portrays the protagonist, Cassie, as strong and intelligent and a character that I really appreciate. I can only hope that in this post-apocalyptic world, I could act like Ca
...ssie. An all around, heart-pumping, great read.

OMG...one of the best books I've read in a while. Certainly worth anyone's time! Normally, I don't care for books that jump between people using the first person perspective because it makes it confusing to keep track of who is who. Mr. Yancey, however, does a wonderful job of creating different personas that come through in the reading so you immediately know that the perspective has switched. While I personally found it to be extremely easy to tell who was good and who was bad, I do think that Mr. Yancey did a fantastic job of trying to keep you guessing. And once you guess, he changes from "who's the bad guy?" to "how does it end" without skipping a beat. I am definitely looking forward to the next book!

Personally, I adored this book. Not just because of the plot, but the CHARACTERS--they are all unique, deeply intimate, and original. Rick Yancey's prose was far from the norm, dark and humorous, but also poetic.
Hats off to you, Yancey. You should be proud.
