During the ride back he was very alert. There was no telling what Burkett would do. Sam hoped to push the man into taking some kind of obvious action, but he didn’t really expect it to be immediate action. Nevertheless he remained alert for another possible ambush.
As he approached the town he found himself wishing he could just by pass it and keep on going. He had never liked Vengeance Creek. It had always represented a prison for him, a place he thought he would never escape from if he di
...dn’t leave early.
That was why he’d left in the first place. He had always regarded Vengeance Creek as a small town that would never grow up, and while he was here he had seen nothing to change his mind. Maybe a lot of people felt that way. Maybe that was why most of them accepted Lincoln Burkett as a savior, and not a conqueror.

One thinh I've noticed in all these books about super gunmen, theu never seem to practice. And it's common knowledge from the memoirs of some of them that they all needed to practice a variety of ways to shoot, from different angles and positions, and etc, every day for several hours
In THIS book the miracle so far , has been the fact the the pursuing horseman was able to shoot Sam in the leg, as I say miraculous from a bouncing saddle base...........!!!???.

This business about beans for every meal is just tripe. They had the run of Miller's store and could easily have included other food that Millar would have for sale. I don't know why a good writer like we have here would make a caricature of the whole Jail fort-up. And for three men they must have been able to get in a lot more than enough for 3 days. 3 months would be more like it. They had plenty of time. and 4 people to do the carrying- maybe 5 if we include the gunsmith.
