“The early-risers had threatened to boycott when they discovered that their beloved scone server and baker was going back into the kitchen full-time and that I would be replacing her behind the counter. Most had warmed up to me instantly though, and one of the older couples, the Davenports, seemed to want to adopt me as one of their honorary grandchildren.
