“It was even hotter now and he raised his visor a little to let the air in. The roads were quiet, with just a few cars and merchants’ trucks buzzing into and out of town. As he pressed on to the north, the traffic became scarcer until it disappeared altogether.
He turned onto the coastal road.
The ocean stretched away to the wispy horizon to his right and the sheer face of the rock hemmed him in on the left. Gulls wheeled high overhead. Scuds of cloud raced across the emerald water.
