“Soft sand under her feet. The night sea breeze quickened around her. The harsh, oppressing Florida humidity made her want to ditch her clothes and jump into the shower at once. She sat in the same spot before she was spirited away to New York—on a bench where she and Kate had a late snack two nights prior.
Luckily, the outdoor eating area was deserted. She didn't want to think how people would react if they saw her materialize from nowhere.
Danielle quickly got off the bench and trudged on the sand with bathroom slippers. She must look like a woman who had forgotten to take her medication. But this was Miami and they had their share of weirdoes in this state.
Danielle flagged a taxi and got in.
"Where to?" asked the driver.
"Bricknell. Magnolia Tower." They cruised rather leisurely toward downtown Miami through surprisingly busy traffic at this hour. She didn't have any money for cab fare but she figured Lucas, the doorman of her building could loan her some until ...she was able get into her apartment.MoreLess
