“I break our embrace and try to wriggle away from him.
“Beth, we have to.” Mark says as he paws at my body like an untrained puppy.
“I don’t know if I’m ready,” I reply.
And it’s true.
Mark and I have spent a lot of time waiting for a chance that we could be together, alone, away from our strict parents. I was at one point really looking forward to it. But things have changed . . .
Mark and I have been together for a long stretch, almost two years now. For two eighteen year o...lds, that has to be like, at least a decade in adult years. For most of that time, we have been forbidden to see each other. We have passed notes in school and sent a few emails that were checked in secrecy, before promptly being erased.
