“It wasn’t quite ten o’clock yet, but he couldn’t imagine Kyra was in bed already, unless the girls had really been out of control. He knew he should feel guilty for dumping the kids on her all day, but it was great to get out, hang with Charlie and work on the boat since that was the only real exercise he was getting these days. Kyra was looking so good from her workouts that he was feeling pressure to step it up himself.
Over beers, too many of them, he opened up to his best friend and asked what he would do if he caught Beth cheating. Charlie wasn’t married, but he’d been with Beth for a couple years and they lived together for all intents and purposes. It was only fear of being tied down that kept him from popping the question.
“If Beth ever stepped out on me, it would be over. If she’s looking for some other guy she’s obviously not happy.”
“But it’s not like you haven’t played around,” Ethan said.
“That’s different, you know that. It didn’t mean anything.
