The teachers also sent in statements of their preferences as far as school studies were concerned. The purposes for which the above exercises were given were: 1. To give teachers an insight into their pupils' preferences in regard to school and other work, so as to bring them into closer touch and sympathy with their pupils. 2. To raise the enquiry whether or not teachers' preferences for certain studies lead them to put more thought, energy and skill into the teaching of such studies and thus largely shape their pupils' preferences. 3.
