This flu had been bothering him, too, but if he had any symptoms besides the bright cheeks and zombielike conversation, he kept them to himself. But after half an hour, he punched a number in his cell phone and said, "Can you just come get her? This is over my head." He finished the conversation in the bedroom but forgot to shut the door, and I heard "possible blood clot" and "dangerous" and "turn into some weird stroke." So, five minutes later, I was seated on a stretcher.
