“I try to view things as a tourist might; the imposing streets, the grand palaces, and the eclectic mix of people. Doing this always gives me a sense of ownership and pride even though I actually own nothing in the glorious, sprawling city.

I knew very few people, and as he chatted with colleagues I was content to sink into a leather chair in the Champagne Bar and indulge one of my favourite pastimes—people watching.MoreLess
