“Kate yelled at Chris from the bathroom.
“Yes.”
The doorbell rang.
“I got it.” Chris ran through the house.
For a moment, the house went silent. Kate was always comforted that she could hear the ocean even through the walls of her beach house. But now, she couldn’t even hear her precious waves. She couldn’t hear Chris in the house. She was scared. Then all of a sudden the world seemed to go forward again after being on pause for that brief moment.
“Kate!”
“What?” The tear...s began to fall even before Chris reached the bathroom.
“That was Connie, Clara’s housekeeper. Marvin died this morning.”
