“Sarah, what’s wrong?” Ever asked. “You jumped half a foot when I touched you.” “Sorry. I was just lost in thought and you startled me.” “It must have been a good thought. About O’Dovey maybe?” She raised her feathery brows, inviting Sarah to a session of girl talk.
Fighting to keep her composure, Sarah returned to wiping down counters.
