“Sunlight streamed in through the lace sheers, but Brinks didn’t appear in any hurry to get up. He lay nestled into the comforter, eyes closed, chin resting on his front paws. Last night, instead of curling up in the chair, he had stood beside her bed, staring up at her. She had even tried to coax him onto the padded seat, but he wanted no part of it.
