I’d spent the first hour after Catherine had gone considering the comfort of a Wychwood Dragon bed (without the Dragon herself) but in the end from lack of energy had simply flopped back into the big chair in the workshop and closed my eyes on a shuddering and protesting nervous system.
Catherine herself, real and abstract, had kept me warm and mobile through the darkest hours of night, but she’d left long before dawn, and afterwards sleep, which practically never knitted up any raveled sleave

I am a great lover of the books of Dick Francis from my young age. Now I am going on 70+. He had excellent talent to think about different topics. This book is one of them.

What makes this story less than believable is the many times that The thugs could have been reported to police and especially now that Logan's girl friend is a cop. This last when Force attempted to murder Logan with the insulin borders on farce. Force's finger prints have to be at least partially evident on the bulb and there are several witnesses to his approaching Logan's car with it.

I don't understand the writer's referring to Baxter's face as Cro-Magnon. Form every source I've ever seen, they looked exactly like modern man. The difference is that the Cro-Magnon brain was about 10% larger than modern man.
