“He’d always hated the place.
The walls were a depressing off-white, and the chemicals played havoc with his nose. He didn’t know how Mari managed to spend hours exposed to the sterile stench and drab atmosphere.
The young doctor walked toward him, head bent over a chart. Stepping into her path, he touched her arm. “How is he?”
Mari shrugged scowling. William had a habit of being stubborn. The sickness hadn’t changed that. “He doesn’t talk to me much anymore.”
