“Please.” Fernie put a hand to his cheek. Lamplight reflected off her face.
“I’m not angry. I’m worried, that’s different.”
Daniel snored on a mat in the corner, and Leah muttered in her sleep from another corner. The baby slept in a wooden cradle. The room couldn’t have been more than twelve by twelve. It was beyond cozy.
“Only for tonight,” Brother Timothy had said as he’d showed them their room. “We’ll find a bigger space tomorrow.”
He’d announced Jacob’s family during dinner and made special note of Jacob’s lineage. “Thus we see how the Lord gathers His saints.”
Daniel and Leah sat on either side of the prophet during the meal. He’d been telling the story of Daniel and the Lion’s Den, a story they knew well—it being Daniel’s namesake, after all—but the prophet’s version was particularly engaging. He changed his voice for different characters, drew out the part about the lions devouring the wicked ministers of Nebuchadnezzar.
