“Her heart beat with the latent panic of some unremembered dream. Automatically, she reached for Greg, snuggling up against his reassuring bulk. He made what she’d always considered the bear sound—a contented grumble from deep in his chest—and drew her closer.
She could tell the moment reality awakened him. The grumbling turned to a sharp inhalation. “Hey,” he said. “You okay?”
“Yes. I am.”
“You sure?”
“I’m sure, and it’s a huge relief. I guess the anti-nausea meds are working fi...ne for now.” She lay flat on her back, her hands cupping her growing belly as she stared into the half dark. “We came through my first round of chemo, Greg.”
Yes, she was completely freaked out and exhausted. Yes, she was worried about the cocktail that had been pumped into her. But she was determined to stay positive.
