Almira Russell Hancock, the wife of General Hancock and the author of this book received numerous requests to write about her husband, his military experiences and his correspondence, after Winfield Scott Hancock’s death. Herewith in 1887, her memoirs were published by Mark Twain's publishing firm, Webster & Company.
