“Okay. Let’s warm some bellies,” Zoe murmured with a grin, turning the heavy-duty dead bolt with a hard click. Returning the building keys to their assigned pocket in her messenger bag, she flipped on the lights to illuminate the back of Hope House’s kitchen. Her black and silver kitchen clogs echoed a determined rhythm over the floor tiles as she cut a path toward her office, but reality took a swipe at both her mood and her best-laid plans before she could even shrug all the way out of her jacket.
