Lights flickered on the deck of Vengeance. William lifted his glass. A lantern, carried by Michael Witherington. Another figure moved behind him, followed by a third, also carrying a lantern. The diaphanous, undefined shape of the second figure—and given that Michael appeared about a head taller—gave William a tremor of joyful apprehension.
