“When I didn’t, I grabbed the fence and shook it. “Hey! Anybody over there, please! I need to talk to you.”
Two lengths of fencing and a five-foot-wide strip of land between the two layers of fence separated the men’s camp from the women’s. My voice had to carry across that patch of weeds and catch somebody on the other side.
