For protection." "I told you before, I don't need you, or any watchdog, to protect me. I can look after myself." She looked at the puppy and smiled despite herself. "He is kind of cute, though." As if he knew her resolve was weakening, Dirk sat forward to put the pup on the floor, mindful of the half-full beer glass left by his ankle.
