Naameh had noticed. “Here.” One day she gave Ila a cup. “What’s this?” Ila asked. “Spit into it,” Naameh said. Ila obediently spat and Naameh rubbed some of the saliva on to a leaf she’d prepared. White speckles immediately started to appear.
